Here’s the basic process:
- Generally, you can report your claim directly to your insurer by phone or online.
- You can also call your agent for assistance.
- A representative will ask you for specific details about the incident.
- Your claim is then assigned to claims specialist for resolution.
Q: I’ve never filed a business claim before, and hopefully I won’t have to. But if something does happen, I want to be prepared. What do I need to do on my end?
Mickey Manley II, a Farmers Insurance® agent in Omaha, Nebraska, explains how business insurance claims are handled.
A: Our business claims center is open 24/7 to take your call. A representative will ask you some questions about what happened and take a recorded statement from you. Your other option is to call your agent, who will file the claim on your behalf. If you prefer, you can also report your claim on our website, and then a representative will follow up with you by phone.
Your claim will be assigned to a person with experience in handling your type of claim. For large or complex claims, a team may be assigned to you. If there is damage to your property, an adjuster will come to your business and conduct an evaluation. If your loss is covered, our adjusters can issue a check on the spot to cover your immediate expenses — such as hiring a contractor or making a deposit on new equipment. If your claim involves possible liability on your part, our team will work to resolve the matter as quickly and efficiently as possible.
With all claims, our goal is to get you back to normal with as little interruption to your operations as possible. We work for an efficient and thorough resolution, so you can get on with what you do best – running your business.
